The York Art Society

Established 1921

The York Art Society was founded in 1921 by the Dean of York, later the Dean of Westminster, The Very Reverend William Foxley Norris.

The Society's aim is to encourage the practice and understanding of the visual arts in York and its neighbourhood. Members meet on a monthly basis for a mixture of artist-led demonstrations, practical drawing and painting workshops and self-help workshops in either a studio environment or on-location.

The Society holds exhibitions of members' paintings annually at key locations in the city centre of York. Exhibition dates and other events are announced in the newsletters and at regular meetings.
